SEDP
meets the challenge of providing and disseminating specialised
management training to social sector organizations of
Pakistan with its resource centre at LUMS. This centre
is engaged in research, training, capacity-building
and consultancy services designed to improve understanding
of the role the non-governmental sector has in civil
society, and to strengthen the capacity of these organizations
to carry out their missions.
The
centre serves as a platform for development professionals
and LUMS resource persons to network, collaborate and
take on collective initiatives to accelerate development
of the social sector.
The
Programme has been divided into eight
key components each headed by a LUMS
faculty member. A brief account of each component
is given below:

Training
for Development Programme - This
task was formerly known as Training
of Trainers (TOT) and has now concluded.
Its aim was to develop a resource of Master Trainers
who received training to enhance their skills in
the areas of management, finance, marketing and
other related fields. |

Social Enterprise Management Programme (SEMP) - provides management training to NGO managers in the country and familiarizes them with the tools and techniques essential for effective management. |

|
District Social Service Officers Training Programme (DSSO) - aims to provide capacity building for the local government functionaries through technical assistance and training. |
|
| |
|
On-the-Job Assistance - offers customized consultancy service to social sector organizations so that they may assess their problems, analyze issues, and suggest possible solutions. |

| |
|
NGO Pulse - is an annual publication, based on annual national surveys and aims to create awareness among the development sector and document information on issues faced by NGOs. |
|
| |
|
IT Development Task - has two major objectives: to develop a web portal and information repository and an IT- based Distance Learning platform. |
|
| |
|
Devolution Research Project - aims to monitor the performance of local governments and identify constraints that may hinder output delivery of these bodies. |

|
Development of Teaching Material - focuses on developing indigenous teaching material on the NGO sector in Pakistan. |
